About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure proper setup and maintenance of all clients and matter data, including billing instructions, fee agreements, rates, and financial attributes
  • Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of data within the firm’s billing systems
  • Confirm that client billing guidelines, e.g. disbursement restraints, are properly implemented and applied to firm invoicing
  • Oversee system configuration updates, workflow enhancements, and ongoing optimization efforts
  • Direct the daily work of the billing operations team, including task assignment, productivity monitoring, and quality reviews
  • Provide training, coaching, and development opportunities to support high performance and strong service delivery
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure team adherence
  • Serve as a point of escalation for complex or sensitive billing matters, collaborating with attorneys, finance teams, and clients to resolve issues efficiently
  • Monitor billing cycles to ensure compliance with client requirements, deadlines, and firm policies
  • Review exception reporting and proactively identify data inconsistencies or process gaps
  • Lead initiatives to improve billing processes, enhance data quality, and drive operational efficiency
  • Promote best practices for billing setup, documentation, and controls
  • Evaluate opportunities for automation and system enhancements to support firm-wide financial objectives
  • Partner with billing and collections leadership, revenue management, and finance colleagues to ensure accurate and aligned billing practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in legal billing, financial operations, or revenue management; law firm experience strongly preferred
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of legal billing systems (e.g., Aderant, Elite 3E, or similar platforms)
  • Background in billing and collections processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
