About the role
- Design and implement AI-powered tools (e.g., document analysis, contract review, legal research assistants, workflow automation).
- Build and maintain applications leveraging LLMs, NLP, and machine learning frameworks.
- Develop APIs, integrations, and internal tools to embed AI into legal workflows.
- Collaborate with attorneys and business teams to identify opportunities for AI-driven efficiency and innovation.
- Translate legal and business requirements into technical solutions.
- Work with foundation models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source LLMs) and optimize for legal use cases.
- Implement prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning where appropriate.
- Integrate with document management systems (DMS), knowledge bases, and firm data sources.
- Ensure high-quality data pipelines and governance for AI applications.
- Ensure AI solutions comply with legal, ethical, and client confidentiality requirements.
- Partner with security and risk teams on model governance and data protection.
- Establish metrics to evaluate model performance and user impact.
- Iterate based on feedback from legal practitioners.
- Support internal adoption through documentation, training sessions, and user support.
- Act as a bridge between technical teams and legal professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or AI development
- Hands-on experience with: Python (or similar language), APIs and backend development, LLMs and NLP frameworks (e.g., OpenAI API, LangChain, Hugging Face)
- Experience building production-grade applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with ambiguous requirements
- Experience in legal tech, professional services, or regulated industries.
- Familiarity with: Retrieval systems (vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS), Prompt engineering and RAG architectures, Document processing (OCR, parsing, structured extraction)
- Understanding of legal workflows (e.g., litigation, corporate transactions, compliance).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical legal solutions.
- Strong collaboration skills with non-technical stakeholders.
- Curiosity and adaptability in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
- High attention to detail, especially around accuracy and risk.
