About the role
- Serving as the lead legal advisor and strategic partner to Payments, Engineering, Risk, and Product teams
- Advising on U.S. and global regulatory frameworks including money transmission, AML/BSA, sanctions, etc.
- Partnering with Product and Engineering to provide guidance throughout the product lifecycle
- Drafting and reviewing consumer-facing disclosures and terms of service for payments products
- Structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex agreements with payment processors and fintech partners
- Reviewing payments related marketing materials for compliance
- Translating regulatory complexity into actionable guidance for cross-functional stakeholders
- Building scalable legal frameworks and processes for compliance
Requirements
- 10+ years of legal experience, with significant focus on payments, fintech, and other financial services matters
- Strong expertise in U.S. federal and state payments regulations
- Experience with international regimes in Canada, Australia, EU, UK and LATAM
- Prior experience counseling on payments and financial services products throughout the product lifecycle
- Negotiated complex commercial agreements with financial institutions and fintech partners
- Built scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new payment features and products
- Supported global payments products and international expansion efforts
- Self-starter thriving in a fast-paced environment
- Pragmatic, product-oriented lawyer balancing regulatory risk with user and business needs
- Excellent at educating and influencing cross-functional stakeholders
