About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Perform venipuncture and microcollection with precision and compassion
Ensure timely, high-quality specimen collection, processing, and distribution
Accurately enter and maintain patient and specimen data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing according to departmental guidelines
Serve as a Senior Phlebotomist when needed, providing guidance and support to peers
Practice Universal and Standard Precautions 100% of the time
Use the 2-patient identifier according to Joint Commission patient safety guidelines
Communicate special instructions to patients
Perform venipuncture and microcollection according to CLSI guidelines, standard operating procedures, and laboratory policy
Document specimen collection data into the LIS
Adhere to specimen handling and transport guidelines
Communicate with clinical staff
Participate in teaching and training new employees and students as assigned
Perform waived POC testing and collect urinalysis specimens
Work independently with minimal supervision
Monitor supply par levels and restock supplies upon delivery

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification by NHA – National Healthcareer Association (required)
At least one year of hospital-based phlebotomy experience (preferred)
Knowledge of venipuncture and microcollection procedures
Knowledge of CLSI guidelines, standard operating procedures, and laboratory policies
Ability to perform waived Point-of-Care (POC) testing
Ability to collect urinalysis specimens
Ability to accurately document data in a Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
