About the role

  • oversee the timely and effective movement of matters within the Public Law Outline (PLO) process
  • ensure that statutory responsibilities are met and that children’s welfare remains central to all decision-making
  • work closely with Social Workers, Team Managers, legal services, and multi-agency partners to monitor case trajectories
  • identify delays and drive improvements in practice
  • act as a bridge between operational teams and legal services
  • facilitate effective communication and ensure that cases are legally sound and procedurally compliant
  • track performance indicators such as timescales for assessments, pre-proceedings actions, and court submissions
  • identify patterns of drift and escalate concerns where necessary
  • coach and mentor staff, promote reflective practice, and encourage critical thinking in complex decision-making
  • prepare monthly performance reports for each of the localities
  • present a quarterly legal report to the senior management team
  • analyse trends, areas of focus and propose actions required
  • work closely with the Social Work Academy and the legal department to develop and deliver targeted training packages for staff

Requirements

  • qualified Social Worker
  • substantial experience in statutory children’s services, including safeguarding and court work
  • strong analytical skills
  • deep understanding of child protection legislation and the PLO framework
  • ability to challenge practice constructively while fostering a culture of accountability and learning
  • full driving licence and willingness to drive
  • DBS clearance
  • have completed your ASYE year (if you qualified after 2012)
  • Social Work England registration
