About the role
- Provide accurate ASL interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and meetings (in-person and via VRI)
- Interpret effectively in sensitive environments, maintaining confidentiality and neutrality
- Adapt communication styles to diverse individuals, including applicants with varying levels of English proficiency
- Adhere to Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct
- Maintain compliance with USCIS protocols, security, and ethical standards
- Participate in training, quality audits, and ongoing professional development.
Requirements
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- RID, NIC, CDI, or equivalent certification (preferred)
- 2+ years of interpreting experience in legal, medical, immigration, or government settings
- Ability to work both onsite and via secure VRI platforms
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be able to pass a Tier 3 or Tier 5 federal background investigation
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency required.
