Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from Amharic to English
Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms
Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language
Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in both languages
Translate and/or transcribe following government client’s style guides and quality standards
Use domain-specific terminology
Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed
Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Familiar with CAT tools, such as Trados Studio
Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.
Requirements
U.S. citizen willing to undergo a U.S. government background check for Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
At least 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and a foreign language
At least 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment for transcription
Familiar with legal terminology in English and the target foreign language(s)
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as Trados.
