About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Guide managers through complex team member relations matters, including performance management, investigations, and policy compliance
- Lead sensitive investigations from intake through resolution, including interviews, internal-system data analysis, investigation reports, and recommendations
- Coach and advise leaders on complex team member relations issues and organizational risk
- Support proactive programs to prevent workplace issues from escalating
- Partner with Legal and People Business Partners on team member relations cases and consistent decisions
- Develop, apply, and revise policies aligned with applicable requirements and GitLab values
- Analyze case trends and share insights to inform programs, policies, and risk-reduction strategies
- Contribute to Team Member Relations and organization-wide initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders
- Interpret employment laws and regulations and provide guidance across jurisdictions
- Serve as a subject matter resource for leaders and partners across regions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Progressive employee or team member relations experience, including leading complex, multi-party workplace investigations
- Working knowledge of United States employment law, including FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and EEOC processes
- Experience in a distributed, multi-jurisdiction, or global organization
- Ability to adapt guidance to different regulatory and cultural contexts
- Ability to influence change without direct authority across functions
- Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to write well-supported investigation reports
- Sound judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and empathy in sensitive matters
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, business judgment, attention to detail, and reliability
- Ability to work at a relatively quick pace
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification preferred but not required
