About the role
- Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, and tax compliance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Manage cash flow and investment balances, and prepare accurate forecasts and financial analyses.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant regulations.
- Direct the proper recording and reporting of grants and restricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial planning and decision-making.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members to support professional growth and strong performance.
- Oversee annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
- 5–7 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller.
- CPA preferred (or CMA).
- Deep understanding of fund accounting and management of restricted funds.
- Proficiency with accounting software—MIP Fund Accounting experience preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
