About the role
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. Identify and resolve historical discrepancies and errors in financial records.
- Conduct a thorough review of all finance and accounting processes, from accounts payable/receivable to general ledger management. Implement best practices to streamline workflows and enhance internal controls.
- Lead a project to cleanse and rationalize the general ledger and chart of accounts to ensure accurate and consistent financial classification.
- Analyze key financial data, including project profitability and overhead, to provide actionable insights to the leadership team. Develop and implement improved financial reporting templates and dashboards.
- Develop and manage cash flow forecasts to optimize liquidity. Collaborate with operations and project teams to improve billing and collections processes.
- Provide immediate leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the existing finance and accounting team. Ensure that the team is well-trained and prepared to sustain the new processes.
- Ensure the company's financial practices are in full compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP) and tax regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA certification is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP of Finance, or Senior Controller).
- Demonstrated experience successfully executing financial cleanups and process improvement projects in a project-based professional services firm (e.g., architecture, engineering, or consulting).
- Expert-level knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software; experience with project-based systems is a significant plus.
- Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
