About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle laboratory aspects of day-to-day waste receiving, handling, processing, and disposal operations
- Prepare and clean glassware for sample analysis
- Perform calibration, sample preparation, and analyses using ICP, GC, Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter, and other instrumentation
- Report analytical results and coordinate with production personnel
- Maintain accurate analysis, maintenance, and production records
- Complete documentation required by provincial and federal waste-control regulations
- Troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation issues
- Assist facility operators and classify waste materials
- Perform laboratory and facility housekeeping duties
- Investigate discrepancies in incoming and outgoing materials
- Complete certificates of disposal and analysis summaries
- Review analytical reports and verify outgoing materials meet disposal-site parameters
- Prepare weekly reports on laboratory work volumes and results
- Monitor laboratory supplies and direct replenishment requests
- Update job-process statuses in the internal database
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems and assist with special projects
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician or Technologist, Chemistry, or related diploma
- Previous laboratory experience is an asset
- Competent computer skills, including MS Windows and Office
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment
- Safety conscious and detail oriented
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work overtime, alternate shifts, and weekends
- Valid work authorization in Canada; GFL does not provide visa sponsorship
