About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own GetGround's compliance with FCA regulations across all products and markets, including Consumer Duty, COBS, and MCOB
- Act as (or support the appointment of) the MLRO, with accountability for AML, KYC, and financial crime controls
- Lead proactive engagement with the FCA and other regulatory bodies, and help build the relationships and frameworks that will underpin future market entry
- Ensure all regulated communications, marketing, and customer-facing content meet compliance standards
- Keep the business ahead of regulatory change with clear, actionable guidance
- Design, implement, and maintain GetGround's compliance policies, procedures, and controls
- Run the compliance monitoring programme, identifying gaps and driving remediation
- Manage compliance training across the business, ensuring all teams understand their obligations
- Prepare and present compliance reporting to senior leadership and the board
- Own GetGround's enterprise risk management framework, including the risk register, risk appetite statement, and control environment
- Identify, assess, and monitor regulatory, operational, financial crime, credit, and third-party/vendor risks across the business, prioritising by likelihood and impact
- Design and run risk assessments for new products, markets, and partnerships before launch, working with Product and Legal to build in mitigations early
- Own horizon-scanning for emerging regulatory, geopolitical, and market risks relevant to fintech, proptech, and cross-border property investment
- Chair or contribute to risk committees, presenting a clear view of the risk landscape and mitigation status to leadership and the board
- Build out incident and issue management processes, ensuring risks that crystallise are captured, escalated, and remediated appropriately
- Own the AML and financial crime framework, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and KYC processes
- Oversee SAR filings and manage relationships with the NCA and other relevant bodies
- Ensure GetGround's financial crime controls scale appropriately as the business grows
- Develop and manage a high-performing compliance and risk team as GetGround scales
- Foster a compliance culture that enables the business rather than blocking it: pragmatic, proportionate, and trusted
- Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations to embed compliance into how we build and operate
- Partner with Legal on regulatory matters and new product launches
- Act as a trusted, practical advisor across the business, enabling rather than blocking
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant experience in a compliance leadership role within an FCA-regulated firm, ideally fintech, payments, or property finance
- Deep knowledge of Consumer Duty, COBS, MCOB, AML, and financial crime frameworks
- Experience acting as (or directly supporting) an MLRO
- Strong regulatory engagement skills; you're comfortable dealing directly with the FCA
- The ability to build and run compliance frameworks from scratch, not just maintain existing ones
- Commercial pragmatism; you find solutions that work for the business, not just the rulebook
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to present to senior leadership and boards
- Highly desirable: Experience with property, mortgage, or investment products
- Highly desirable: Multi-jurisdictional compliance exposure
- Highly desirable: In-house experience at a fast-growing fintech
