About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead architecture, design, and implementation of complex web and platform capabilities across the MyAccount ecosystem
- Drive technical strategy and architectural alignment across multiple teams, services, and stakeholder groups
- Develop web applications using Next.js, React, JavaScript, and TypeScript where appropriate
- Design and develop APIs supporting core business capabilities and long-term platform evolution
- Translate business goals into technical plans, engineering roadmaps, and scalable implementation approaches
- Improve system reliability, scalability, performance, observability, and developer productivity
- Ensure monitoring and alerting are in place for existing applications and new features
- Identify and remediate code quality concerns, design inconsistencies, operational weaknesses, and security vulnerabilities
- Apply software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, and established frameworks throughout the software development lifecycle
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build robust applications
- Develop unit and automated tests
- Drive clarity on technical tradeoffs and support decisions balancing speed, quality, and maintainability
- Mentor and coach engineers across levels through design reviews, technical guidance, and collaboration
- Document proposed software solutions and existing systems
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices
- Uphold GM standards, industry best practices, values, and cultural behaviors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience in software development, including significant experience building and evolving customer-facing web applications or platforms at scale
- Strong hands-on experience contributing to software project delivery, including deployment and operational ownership
- Deep understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, testing strategy, quality assurance, solution validation, and test automation
- Strong experience maintaining, debugging, and improving live software applications for stability, performance, and resilience
- Ability to drive technical direction and influence architectural decisions across team boundaries without direct authority
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, design, security, and platform teams
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar within an organization
- Ability to connect technical initiatives to business objectives and make sound decisions in complex problem spaces
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Preferred: Experience with Next.js, Angular, React, or Ember
- Preferred: Experience with customer identity, authentication, account management, consent, profile, or security-sensitive systems
- Preferred: Experience modernizing platforms and reducing technical complexity across a large product surface
- Preferred: Experience improving observability, reliability, and operational excellence for customer-facing systems
- Preferred: Track record of influencing technical roadmaps and delivering cross-functional initiatives with broad organizational impact
