About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, implement, and maintain the on-vehicle control plane that retrieves cloud configuration and applies it across vehicle ECUs.
  • Design, implement, and maintain the on-vehicle data plane that collects, processes, and forwards vehicle-system data to cloud storage.
  • Optimize control and data planes for reliable data egress and configuration delivery over intermittent connectivity, rapid configuration convergence, and minimal CPU and memory usage.
  • Work with Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to safely roll out on-vehicle software and configuration.
  • Instrument software with observability for fleet monitoring, production diagnosis, and source-level issue resolution.
  • Contribute to the open source community through issue reporting, documentation, and patches.
  • Receive direct mentorship from senior engineers while building, testing, and maintaining embedded control and data-plane infrastructure.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Graduated or will be graduating between January 2026 and May 2027.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Experience with C, C++, or a related language through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Exposure to Linux, Android, or QNX platforms.
  • Foundational understanding of distributed systems, configuration management, or data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP) or Autosar standards.
  • Understanding of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate-based device identity.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and device management services.
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with Firestore.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Internship or project experience with fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration systems, or contributions to Fluent Bit or other data-intensive open source projects.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in Canada now or in the future.
