About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a large group of Interior Engineering Designers and DLTs/Design TSs supporting IPFC Design projects and programs
  • Provide technical leadership and guide successful execution of vehicle programs with strong technical solutions
  • Develop products, processes, standards, or operational plans supporting business strategies
  • Influence organizational adoption of new concepts, practices, and approaches
  • Identify problems and modify complex working methods where procedures are not defined
  • Promote GM values and make customer-focused decisions
  • Lead staffing, communication, training, employee development, work direction and prioritization, performance evaluation, recognition, and roadblock removal
  • Manage the math development process
  • Conduct group meetings, communicate GM policies and initiatives, and prepare and deliver presentations
  • Ensure mandatory and role-specific training completion and support career development
  • Assign workloads and set individual and group priorities
  • Review and approve employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and work-related records
  • Review deliverables and behaviors, provide feedback, and conduct performance interventions when necessary
  • Participate in compensation planning and administer compensation treatment
  • Travel less than 25%

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology
  • 8+ years of experience in Design, including leadership experience
  • Experience in product development and design/release activities
  • Strong knowledge of engineering systems and processes, including GxDP, GSTS, VIS Mock-up, GPDS, engineering release systems, GD&T, specifications, Global BOM, and product and program content
  • Solid grounding in core engineering and design principles
  • Ability to propose technical alternatives to balance competing priorities
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring others
  • Broad understanding of administrative and engineering tools used by the team and cross-functional partners
  • Experience in Seating and Interior Trim Design preferred
  • Experience using NX and Teamcenter preferred
  • Experience in Design/Release engineering preferred
  • Broad knowledge and operational understanding of GM Policies and Procedures preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis
