About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Release parts and subsystems for production
  • Lead gathering, negotiation, updating, and documentation of product requirements
  • Serve as the single-point contact between GM and the supplier
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to solve complex problems
  • Lead and develop strategic solutions for safety, warranty, cost, and quality initiatives
  • Own release responsibility for fully integrated hardware delivered on time and with high quality
  • Lead controller change negotiations with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Update and release requirements documents
  • Organize sourcing documents and provide technical expertise during purchasing
  • Lead and facilitate embedded controls module Product Development Team meetings
  • Manage documented electrical and mechanical interfaces, including component packaging
  • Coordinate requirements and design reviews with suppliers, algorithm groups, and software groups
  • Ensure hardware prototypes are validated and available for pre-production vehicle build milestones
  • Ensure production-released parts meet PPAP requirements and supplier manufacturing is ready for volume production at launch
  • Reduce controller warranty to meet quality targets
  • Work with the Mechatronic Hardware Team and software team on engine and propulsion control modules for future ICE vehicle platforms
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to new employees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • 2+ years of embedded controls experience
  • Basic understanding of software verification/validation processes
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex and difficult to solve
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences with yours
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
  • Master's degree in a listed engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics field (desired)
  • 5 to 10 years of DRE experience (desired)
  • Experience in the GM component specification and release process (desired)
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis systems (desired)
  • Basic understanding of vehicle serial data communications, such as CAN, GMLAN, and LIN (desired)
  • Knowledge of OBD-II diagnostics (desired)
  • Knowledge of automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL) (desired)
  • DFSS Black Belt certification (desired)
