About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform general ledger activities accurately, timely, and in compliance with accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Identify, interpret, and assess potential accounting risks and issues
  • Research and analyze accounting transactions, contracts, and business events to determine appropriate accounting treatment
  • Partner with finance and business teams to evaluate accounting implications of transactions and operational decisions
  • Perform analytical reviews supporting material business decisions and financial conclusions
  • Evaluate accounting practices and recommend process improvements
  • Support internal and external financial reporting, including consolidated results analysis, management review materials, and reporting timeline coordination
  • Research and interpret new accounting standards and determine their application to General Motors
  • Analyze logistics cost flows and ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Support quarterly and annual external reporting compliance
  • Review, analyze, and coordinate reporting activities across stakeholders
  • Execute and maintain internal controls and financial procedures in line with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and company policies
  • Support logistics cost control policies and accounting governance requirements
  • Identify control gaps, recommend corrective actions, and strengthen the control environment
  • Support finance transformation, system improvements, and regulatory change implementation
  • Improve accounting processes, reconciliations, reporting quality, and control execution
  • Promote standardization, transparency, and process discipline across logistics cost accounting activities
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely responses to requests

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting with active Regional Accounting Council registration (CRC)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting, logistic costs accounting, and financial reporting
  • Experience with monthly close, reconciliations, cost analysis, and internal controls
  • Ability to interpret accounting standards and apply them to business transactions
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work across functions and communicate clearly with finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Experience managing deadlines and balancing multiple priorities in a complex environment
  • Experience with SAP applied to Accounting/Costing
  • Knowledge of Python, Power BI, and artificial intelligence solutions
  • Advanced or fluent English with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Spanish (intermediate to advanced) preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to report to the specified location at least 3 times a week
