About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within software, mechanical, and manufacturing to ensure successful integration of network technologies into ECU electrical designs.
  • Perform detailed hardware analysis, including worst-case analysis, signal integrity, and power integrity, for SerDes and Ethernet interfaces and related circuitry.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement robust, long-term solutions across ECUs and associated connectivity hardware.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality, manufacturable designs that meet performance, safety, and reliability targets.
  • Develop hardware requirements and test specifications for SerDes/Ethernet connectivity and supporting circuitry.
  • Develop a clear test strategy covering all aspects of development, from component and board-level validation through system integration and production readiness.
  • Lead bench test execution throughout the development lifecycle, including bring-up, characterization, and debug of prototype and production-intent hardware.
  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and ECU product lines within your scope of responsibility, with focus on wired connectivity technology (SerDes and Ethernet PHYs, switches, and related components).
  • Manage technology roadmaps in close collaboration with industry leaders and semiconductor partners to ensure GM’s network hardware solutions remain on the forefront of performance, cost, and scalability.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science
  • 5+ total years of engineering experience at an OEM, OR at a semiconductor supplier, OR at a Tier 1 ECU supplier
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design and development
  • Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and automotive software architecture
  • Strong proficiency in circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout
  • Experience in hardware design tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition and ORCAD
  • Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters
  • Exceptional demonstrated experience leading projects to completion
