About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interface with product, tooling team and design team to understand design and dimensional risks.
- Interface with suppliers to identify the product dimensional performance and the impact on the overall build.
- Lead dimensional variation reduction activities – slow builds, fixture builds, understanding variation stack ups and risks to finished level assemblies.
- Lead analysis of parts and assemblies using virtual tools – Team Center, Polyworks, and Scanning equipment.
- Overall lead by program on all dimensional build concerns.
- Work on root causing issues, defining corrective action plans, and validating the corrective action plans.
- Interface with assembly plant labor workforce – union, and plant leadership.
- Lead the process development of the work to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Provide training and mentorship to peers and new engineers.
- Monitor dimensional performance to identify potential risks to assembly process, quality or customer experience.
- Technical problem solving on build issues and process issues.
- Supervises three Dimensional Matching Engineers, Scanning Resources.
- 30% domestic travel required.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study and 8 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or related role.
- Eight years of experience with: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and datum strategies; Dimensional Engineering and Statistical background; and Reading product drawings for requirements and tolerances.
- Seven years of experience with: BIW, GA, and Dimensional Quality; Dimensional Quality process to reduce overall variation by managing and controlling supplier and process variation; and Reading and manipulating electronic part files, cutting sections, creating views, and building assemblies.
- Five years of experience with: Different supplier processes including Injection Molding, Blow Molding, chroming, Foam, part wrapping, sub assembly, sequencing, and overall impact to Dimensional performance and Dimensional Variation; and Part data collection using various scanning tools.
- Two years of experience with: Scan data analysis using virtual build technologies to identify variation and issues with part quality.
