Design Release Engineer – Vehicle Structures

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the design release and execution of body/chassis structure components from concept through production
- Lead technical development for components and/or new technologies within vehicle programs
- Drive engineering decisions by balancing performance, cost, weight, and timing
- Conduct design analysis and validate designs through testing and development activities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design studio, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and suppliers
- Support prototype builds, vehicle integration, and production launch activities
- Identify and implement product improvements and cost reduction opportunities
- Ensure components meet GM technical standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations
- Communicate complex technical topics clearly to leadership and stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of engineering experience in product development or design
- Experience in Body/Chassis structure components or related systems
- Knowledge of DFMEA, GD&T, and Design for Six Sigma methodologies
- Familiarity with advanced materials (e.g., high-strength steel, alloys) and manufacturing processes
- Understanding of FMVSS crash and regulatory requirements
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
