Energy Development Engineer

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead energy development activities for assigned vehicle programs, ensuring robust technical definition, integration, and delivery of energy-related targets and actions across the program lifecycle.
- Develop system-level understanding of vehicle energy performance drivers and translate them into executable engineering workstreams across propulsion, calibration, software, testing, validation, and vehicle integration.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex and non-standard technical issues affecting fuel economy, energy efficiency, drivability interfaces, and related vehicle performance outcomes.
- Own cross-functional alignment of technical assumptions, target definitions, tradeoffs, risks, and recovery actions needed to support program objectives.
- Use data, analysis, engineering judgment, and structured problem solving to define options, recommend solutions, and drive decisions on significant matters.
- Coordinate with calibration, software, propulsion, validation, program execution, and supporting functions to ensure integrated and timely delivery.
- Develop and present technical status, recommendations, and decision points to leadership and key stakeholders with clarity and credibility.
- Anticipate issues, escalate when needed, and influence resolution in situations where agreement may be difficult due to competing priorities or differing technical views.
- Improve internal processes, tools, methods, and technical routines that strengthen energy development execution, target robustness, and cross-functional efficiency.
- Serve as a technical resource for less experienced engineers and provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship on difficult technical issues.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
- Active CREA registration (mandatory).
- Solid experience in vehicle energy development, vehicle performance, propulsion systems, or closely related automotive engineering areas.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance and make sound technical judgments on significant engineering matters.
- Strong systems engineering and integration capability, including the ability to connect subsystem behavior to vehicle-level outcomes.
- Experience working across multiple engineering functions to solve complex technical problems and deliver time-sensitive program results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to structure ambiguous issues and drive practical solutions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical recommendations to cross-functional and leadership audiences.
- Proven ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across stakeholders with different perspectives.
- Working knowledge of vehicle development processes, test and validation activities, and engineering deliverable management.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, integrity, accountability, and GM behaviors in daily work.
