Senior Hardware Design Engineer
General MotorsSenior Hardware Design Engineer working on vehicle program development and integration. Leading electrical designs and supporting GM's automotive technology initiatives in a hybrid work environment.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Works on product development and integration activities.
- Utilizes engineering tools, schematics, layout, and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs.
- Leads electrical designs through component selection and schematic/layout review.
- Identifies leading IC and component suppliers which meet/exceed GM performance requirements.
- Supports Tier1’s as the GM technical lead with selected Tier2/Tier3 designs.
- Maintains specific subsystem requirements optimized and up to date with the latest technology and market trend.
- Optimizes five-point (Temp/Voltage) parametric performance of your subsystem for end of line production tests.
- Continues the design support and troubleshooting for current model products and issues.
- Improves development cycles for robust product design.
- Supports or leads as appropriate, packaging, EMC, Thermal, power and vehicle integration.
- Applies cost effective solutions with improved performance design.
- Supports internal GM Program management, software, validation, vehicle, system, and core teams as the Electrical Hardware domain expert.
- Resolves through simulation or testing any performance issue which results in a DV/PV observation or failure.
- Completes all responsibilities to the program management schedule for on time component delivery with all performance/quality requirements met.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study
- Five (5) years of experience as a Hardware Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role
- Five years of experience with:
- Automotive hardware electronics design
- Telematics, and connectivity SOC controller design including BT/WiFi
- Automotive industry design experience including schematic, layout, and EMC
- Automotive Communication Buses including CAN and LIN
- Creating analog HW interfaces
- High speed, highly integrated embedded PCB design
- Electric Vehicle Development and Power Electronics products
- PCB design for high thermal performance and Mechanical Housing
- On Bench Validation
- Connected Car designs including remote diagnostics and GPS electronic module tracking
- Designing for manufacturing PCB, Housing, and SOC.
