Battery Electrical Engineer
General MotorsBattery Electrical Engineer responsible for designing electrical systems of high-voltage batteries for military platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment for government programs.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work with internal and external customers to design and integrate the electrical system of high-voltage battery packs for military platforms.
- Support technical trade-off studies within the battery pack to select optimal electrical designs (architecture, components, interfaces, protection).
- Support integration and balance of sub-systems (cells, modules, BMS, contactors, fusing, harnessing, LV/HV interfaces) to optimize the battery pack while achieving program requirements, cost, mass and timing.
- Support builds of prototype properties and test articles as needed, including issue identification and resolution during build.
- Support development of the controls architecture strategy for the battery electrical system, battery pack calibration of controls, flashing of controllers and data analysis for development, validation and issue resolution in collaboration with systems and controls teams.
- Participate in design and peer reviews to ensure robust electrical design, safety and compliance to GM and customer requirements.
- Manage Change Requests and Issue tracking.
- Owns the component Statement of Requirements, component timing plan, issues, etc. and manages details when changes are required.
- Support development of system or component requirements
- Manages interface control documents (ICDm and ICDe) for both component and works with integration counterparts to develop robust and efficient solutions.
- Prepare and present technical content and status in Program Reviews and customer/partner technical reviews as needed.
- Lead or support issue resolution, including root cause analysis, containment, corrective actions and lessons learned related to the battery electrical system.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong product development experience in battery and/or high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience in design, development, validation and release of automotive electrical/electronic components or systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, set priorities and be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical and electrical systems and components.
- Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)
