Fire Prevention and Protection Specialist II
General MotorsFire Protection Specialist ensuring compliance with safety codes and engineering improvements at GM. Leading policy development and consultation during critical projects.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Apply engineering principles to improve fire protection system design and performance.
- Drive compliance of GM Fire requirements through influence across multiple sites, business units and stakeholders.
- Lead development and revision of corporate fire safety policies and standards based on updated regulations and building codes.
- Facilitate and lead tabletop exercises, improving emergency fire response, for complex operations.
- Provide expert consultation during major projects, including EV and high-risk areas.
- Use persuasive communication and leadership to foster a strong fire safety culture.
- Serve as a global subject matter expert for fire prevention and protection strategies.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5-7+ years of progressive experience in fire protection compliance and/or facilities management.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, ideally in Engineering or related field.
- Advanced Degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead policy development and influence organizational safety culture using globally recognized code (NFPA, FM, IBC, IFC, etc.).
- Expertise in fire protection system design and engineering controls.
- Strong leadership and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
