Senior Value Chain Engineer
General MotorsSenior Value Chain Engineer optimizing costs and collaborating with purchasing teams at General Motors. Utilizing data to drive efficiency and manage supplier relations.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Help buyers to understand and compare part costs: Confirm supplier cost reporting through audits
- Build up cost model with the help of GM standards and experts when you need them
- Analyze and compare costs for opportunities and gaps
- Use your analysis and available data to support buyers in the development of sourcing and negotiation strategies
- Lead continuous improvement and cost reduction activities. Identify waste and inefficiencies at supplier sites
- Conduct on-site workshops with suppliers, if needed, develop improvement plans to address opportunities identified through performance improvement tools
- Monitor/accelerate supplier implementation of resulting improvement plans to ensure savings are achieved and coordinate with the respective buyers to ensure the savings are realized
- Analyze, organize, and understand large amounts of data.
- Be an active partner with the internal GPSC purchasing team – aid in providing a fair yet competitive component cost for GM.
- Support the assigned GM SMT from a tooling and piece price perspective.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or other related areas
- Project Execution – 5-10 Years
- Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
- Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment
- Candidates must demonstrate the following required competencies: communication, analytical thinking, data judgment, workload management, relationship Management, vendor/supplier management, and negotiation
- Presentation skills
- Comprehensive manufacturing process knowledge is required.
- An understanding of regional differences in manufacturing processes / assumptions is helpful.
- Preferred Critical Skills are but not limited to: Automotive, Industrial, and/or financial industry experience
- Operations Experience
- Capable of interpreting market data
- Problem Solving
- Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents
- Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed
- Ability to travel at least 25% of time, including international travel, to supplier facilities for enhanced costing collaboration and support of the specific engineering / purchasing team.
