About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • The Staff Component Validation Engineer is the technical owner for ensuring assigned hardware meets all GM technical, reliability, regulatory, and program requirements through robust analysis, development, and validation.
  • Serve as the GM Validation Engineer / Component Validation Engineer for assigned components, responsible to ensure the ECU design is fully validated to the Statement of Requirements (SOR) and associated technical specifications.
  • Own validation content for SOR Appendices, obtaining the appropriate global templates and commodity-specific content and attaching them to the SOR package.
  • Develop, maintain, and approve the component ADVP&R / validation plan, including analysis, DV, PV, environmental (GMW3172), software (if applicable), and any special/regulatory testing needed for the component.
  • Work closely with Hardware Design Engineer, Design Release Engineers (DREs), Technical Integration Engineers (TIEs), Performance Engineers, Program Teams, BOM Family Owners, Validation Owners, and Technical Specialists to define validation scope, manage changes, and ensure alignment to program targets and timing.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Significant experience in component validation, design release, or related hardware roles within automotive or similar safety-/reliability-critical industries.
  • Demonstrated experience with GM engineering processes such as GVDP, VeSCoM, PRTS, PCCR/ECR, and program milestone execution.
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing DV/PV testing, including environmental validation per GMW3172 and development of component Validation Plans (CVP/ADVP&R).
  • Strong background in DFMEA/DRBFM, root cause analysis, and test-to-failure / reliability demonstration methods.
  • Proven ability to work with suppliers and cross-functional teams across global regions, including negotiating/aligning on validation plans, timing, and resource needs.
  • Excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal), including clear documentation of validation plans, test results, and technical recommendations.
