About the role

  • Develop and maintain software for managing diverse fleets of GM vehicles (R&D and production).
  • Optimize software performance and reliability for real-world deployment.
  • Leverage the guidance and experience of more senior engineers on the team to identify engineering pain points and implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Effectively communicate the status of their work.
  • Follow software engineering best practices within the team.
  • Contribute to the engineering culture on the team.
  • Contribute to real-world services and gain practical experience with Go, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, GCP, and supporting tools such as Buildkite and OpenTelemetry.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Academic exposure to distributed systems concepts, including scalability, reliability, or fault tolerance.
  • Experience writing Go, Python, or similar languages through coursework, internships, or project work.
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week.
