About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan and execute assigned technical-publication work packages
- Review contracts, specifications, logistics requirements, engineering inputs, service requirements, and customer expectations
- Develop, author, edit, update, and maintain operator, maintenance, inspection, servicing, repair, troubleshooting, parts, and training publications
- Analyze drawings, CAD and 3D math data, wiring schematics, system diagrams, software information, parts data, engineering changes, photographs, and test results
- Translate complex engineering and service information into clear, actionable procedures
- Organize content using topic-based and structured-writing principles
- Create and maintain procedures in GM Service Information, XML/SGML, military technical-publication, and other authoring systems
- Apply writing, terminology, formatting, safety, illustration, cross-reference, delivery, and Simplified Technical English requirements
- Validate technical content with engineers, technicians, and subject matter experts
- Coordinate figure requirements and integrate graphics with written procedures
- Manage revisions, change incorporation, traceability, document configuration, and version control
- Participate in technical reviews, audits, demonstrations, maintenance evaluations, and validation activities
- Perform hands-on validation with technicians, vehicles, equipment, test articles, and customers
- Resolve documentation issues and escalate matters requiring engineering or customer authority
- Recommend improvements to authoring methods, templates, terminology, quality checks, review processes, and delivery workflows
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow GM Defense, customer, facility, equipment, and high-voltage safety requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated experience developing, authoring, editing, or maintaining technical publications, service information, maintenance documentation, engineering documentation, technical orders, training documentation, or comparable structured technical content
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD or 3D math, wiring schematics, parts information, system diagrams, engineering changes, requirements, or other technical source data
- Ability to write clear, accurate, and actionable technical procedures
- Experience with structured-authoring, XML/SGML, content-management, PLM, service-information, technical-order, or comparable publication environments, or ability to learn those systems
- Ability to independently manage multiple assignments, dependencies, delivery commitments, reviews, validation, and issue resolution
- Strong technical writing, editing, analytical, organizational, and cross-functional communication skills
- Ability to learn vehicle and equipment systems, including high-voltage, battery, propulsion, controls, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and software-enabled systems
- Ability to work safely around vehicles, equipment, test articles, maintenance activities, and high-voltage systems
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card and any required customer or program security clearance
- Preferred: GM Service Information, GM MATH, GM graphic-art processes, Electronic Parts Catalog, Teamcenter, Arbortext, structured XML editors, content-management systems, PLM software, IETM processes, military/aerospace technical manuals, Simplified Technical English, physical validation, configuration management, Green Belt or Black Belt certification
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience (preferred)
- High-voltage safety training or certification applicable to the assigned program (preferred)
- Ability to travel less than 25%
- Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
