About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Identify engineering pain points and propose, design, and implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions
Influence the team's technical roadmap
Evaluate new tools and technologies through proofs of concept
Ship improvements to AV development toolchains and services with measurable impact on engineering productivity and company metrics
Drive software engineering best practices and create tooling that encourages them
Help steer the team's engineering culture
Guide the team in balancing delivery impact with technical debt
Mentor and grow engineers on the team
Set an example for accountability
Execute and deliver impact individually and through the team
Set boundaries when evaluating external requests against the team's vision
Specialize in Remote Build Execution and the in-house FUSE file system used for CI, ML training, simulation, and remote build
Support and extend the FUSE system and help internal customers integrate source-code-dependent tools
Enable source code editing in developer environments from the FUSE file system

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services
Experience writing in Go, Python, or other languages at production scale
Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals
Attention to detail and desire to improve processes and systems
Ability to lead and influence others, internally and externally
Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals, and provide and take critical feedback
Ability to make trade-offs and communicate the reasoning
Ability to manage competing priorities, focus on shipping, and work effectively under pressure
Passion for mentoring and growing junior engineers
Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact
Preferred: experience working with GCP
Preferred: experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
Preferred: experience owning or contributing to open-source projects
