About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead advanced technical work on engine, transmission and battery structures within the Advanced Structural Engineering team
  • Establish fundamental learnings and develop designs through Advanced Technology Work (ATW)
  • Lead creation and development of cylinder head, head gasket, engine block, transmission housing and battery structural concepts
  • Evaluate design solutions and trade-offs for next-generation engine, transmission and battery structural requirements
  • Serve as project technical lead for advanced propulsion structures and develop manufacturable designs meeting vehicle structural performance requirements
  • Define the scope of structures designs and technologies to assess from ATW through the Balanced Architecture phase
  • Partner with the Virtual Design, Development, and Validation analysis organization on tools for early structural-performance assessment
  • Support implementation teams as designs are sourced and launched into production
  • Benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative future-vehicle technologies
  • Collaborate with industry and startup companies to innovate battery module technology

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in engine head, head gasket, engine block, transmission housing and/or battery and body structures development
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with suppliers
  • Ability to define tangible approaches for ambiguous problems and identify optimal solutions
  • Experience supporting vehicle programs during launch phase to SORP
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Familiarity with structural CAE tools
  • Creativity and latitude on challenging assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred
  • Experience with R&D and advanced engineering body structure teams
  • Knowledge of forming and joining processes
  • Proficiency developing analytical models
  • Experience with Unigraphics NX or other CAD software
  • Experience with linear analysis tools such as NASTRAN and OPTISTRUCT
  • Experience with non-linear analysis tools such as LS-DYNA
  • Testing and validation experience for batteries or structural components
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
