About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set and execute current and future sourcing strategies for truck and intermodal transportation
  • Lead procurement of transportation services for materials between GM suppliers and assembly centers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
  • Issue RFQs, analyze bids, negotiate, and award logistics service contracts
  • Report metrics and resolve commercial issues
  • Drive continuous improvement, streamline processes, and develop savings opportunities
  • Collaborate with GM teams, service providers, 3PLs, and GM plants to achieve cost, performance, and organizational targets
  • Develop procurement strategies based on purchase requirements and market trends
  • Collaborate with GM Legal on transportation-service terms and conditions
  • Create and manage quality bid lists, carrier performance, sourcing pipelines, compliance, export compliance, sustainability, and benchmarking data
  • Improve supplier relationships through collaboration and mutual waste elimination
  • Participate in supplier KPI reviews and conduct quarterly business reviews
  • Manage sourcing packages using the GPSC sourcing process and establish a capable, competitive domestic supply base
  • Perform benchmarking, competitive sourcing, targeted sourcing, bundling, supplier negotiations, rate management, contract amendments, spot buys, rate analysis, and supplier requests
  • Analyze contract and overall business impact and support budget activities
  • Align decisions with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and Logistics Engineering/Planning/Operations
  • Create or modify complex work-task instruction sheets to support buyer training
  • Lead additional projects assigned by leadership and keep current with industry developments
  • Adhere to corporate purchasing and accounting policies and execute logistics deliverables

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics, or product development; internship or co-op experience not considered
  • Ability to work independently and self-directed
  • Strong personal initiative
  • Ability to communicate relevant information effectively and timely to appropriate audiences
  • Strong drive to learn, grow, and develop
  • Ability to develop and maintain constructive, cooperative working relationships
  • High organizational skills to prioritize, manage multiple projects and stakeholders, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical ability to solve complex problems
  • Experience managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance
  • Expertise in MS Office tools: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to travel 5–10% domestically
