About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and standardize best practices for continuous monitoring of emerging vehicle safety issues
  • Strengthen data-analytics support for safety investigations through improved methods, automated tools, and process-improvement feedback loops
  • Perform statistical analyses and deliver sound, unbiased, actionable results
  • Analyze signals, patterns, and trends in large, complex datasets to identify potential safety issues early
  • Apply time series, categorical data, sampling, and multivariate analysis methods
  • Support anomaly detection, diagnostics, prognostics, and root cause analysis for safety-related topics
  • Identify, design, and implement automation opportunities using custom software and off-the-shelf solutions
  • Develop scalable automated analytical tools, data workflows, and monitoring approaches
  • Communicate findings and concise, data-driven stories to stakeholders from analysts to senior leadership
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship across the team
  • Work independently on complex assignments while collaborating across functions
  • Apply business acumen and technical judgment to strengthen hazard-monitoring analytics support

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • M.S. in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Operations Research, or another relevant degree
  • 6+ years of work experience in applied statistics, analytics, engineering, data science, or a related field
  • Strong background in statistical data analysis, including time series, categorical data analysis, multivariate analysis, and sampling design
  • Strong background in anomaly detection, diagnostics and prognostics, and root cause analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in large-scale data analytics
  • Strong programming capability in Python, SQL, and related analytical tools
  • Experience with Databricks, data pipelines, data preprocessing workflows, and automation of recurring analytical processes
  • Ability to communicate results and methodologies effectively, including presentations to senior leadership
  • Strong work ethic, drive for results, and ability to work effectively in an ambiguous environment
  • Understanding of vehicle safety technologies, including design intent, function, and intended field performance
  • Experience in vehicle development or validation of safety-related systems or components preferred
  • Experience supporting safety investigations or field-performance analytics preferred
  • Experience working within GM’s data ecosystem preferred
  • Experience using GM’s cloud technology stack for data science and analytics preferred
  • Experience applying natural language processing or other advanced analytical techniques preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship
  • Required to report to the specific location at least 3 times a week, or at another frequency dictated by the manager
  • Required to travel less than 25%
