About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and integrate mechanical components used in solid rocket motor systems
  • Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, and structural interfaces
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment
  • Guide interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate design feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements
  • Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties, diagnose faulty operation, and make recommendations to maintenance crews
  • May lead functional teams or projects
  • Travel up to 25% likely

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience
  • Engineering degree required
  • Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer for solid rocket motors
  • Experience with mechanical design integration of solid propulsion systems
  • Experience with mechanical system design, mass properties, and integrating sub-assemblies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of applied mechanics
  • Knowledge of design engineering and design optimization
  • Experience with design reviews and prototyping
