About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as technical lead for AI/ML strategy, architecture, and implementation across the program
  • Design and deploy scalable AI/ML models supporting the CMS mission
  • Lead predictive analytics, automation frameworks, and intelligent decision-support systems
  • Integrate AI solutions into secure enterprise and tactical environments
  • Ensure compliance with CMS cybersecurity and data governance standards
  • Oversee data engineering pipelines and model lifecycle management (MLOps)
  • Develop and maintain model validation, explainability, and bias mitigation practices
  • Advise program leadership and stakeholders on emerging AI technologies and mission applications
  • Transition experimental or prototype AI capabilities into operational production systems
  • Integrate security, ethical, and data governance requirements into AI development workflows
  • Assess AI security threats and produce ATO, configuration management, and incident response documentation
  • Coordinate with ISSOs, business owners, and stakeholders on secure AI solutions, audits, interviews, and governance reviews
  • Lead security governance processes for continuous compliance
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or related technical field required; Master's or PhD preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in AI/ML, data science, software engineering, or related advanced analytics disciplines
  • Hands-on experience developing AI/ML solutions
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments
  • Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Java
  • Deep understanding of TensorFlow or PyTorch, preferably implemented within AWS SageMaker
  • Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into secure enterprise environments
  • Experience with cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance requirements
  • Experience developing AI products or prototypes using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic AI technologies
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; AWS preferred
  • Experience using AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, or Google Vertex AI
  • Experience implementing AI solutions in secure, restricted, or regulated environments
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance
  • Must have lived in the United States at least three of the last five years
  • No work visa sponsorship provided
  • Agentforce implementation experience preferred
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale Salesforce Solutions preferred
  • Familiarity with AI governance and modernization initiatives preferred
  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal Agencies, preferably CMS, preferred
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government preferred
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust architectures preferred
