About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and implement network systems for LAN, MAN, and WAN environments
- Monitor and diagnose network issues and perform root-cause analysis
- Analyze network traffic patterns and provide capacity-planning solutions
- Coordinate with vendor support services and escalate outages or performance degradations
- Perform system-level design and configuration, including hardware, operating systems, and platform specifications
- Evaluate and test network products and technologies against organizational standards
- Provide technical assistance and oversight across network operations, administration, security protocols, and systems integration
- Contribute technical insights to network policies, standards, constraints, and budget considerations
- Conduct routine testing and analysis of network hardware, communications systems, and connectivity components
- Identify and implement network optimizations to improve performance and security
- Create and maintain detailed network configuration, process, and procedure documentation
- Support mission-critical Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience
- 10+ years of professional experience in network engineering, infrastructure design, and circuit troubleshooting
- Experience with routing and switching protocols
- DOE Q or TS security clearance required
- US citizenship required
- Deep knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless technologies, and network design principles
- Expertise in BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, RSTP, VXLAN, and LACP
- Understanding of network security practices, system hardening, and organizational compliance standards
- Experience with DISA STIGs and other federal security frameworks required
- Familiarity with Microsoft DNS and Unix BIND systems
- Cisco certification is valuable; CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCIE, or another Cisco certification listed
- Juniper and Palo Alto experience is a plus
- Previous Department of Energy or similar federal-agency experience is preferred
- Less than 10% travel required
- Ability to work onsite at a client site in Denver, Albuquerque, or Germantown
