About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- The Senior Database Analyst (Sr. DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the OCIO enterprise database environments.
- This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of mission‑critical database systems and supports both on‑premises and cloud‑based platforms.
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server and Oracle database environments.
- Develop and implement robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Monitor database performance; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Ensure security best practices are applied, including cyber protocols, patching, and access controls.
- Collaborate with system administrators, developers, and security teams to support application and infrastructure initiatives.
- Perform database migration, upgrades, and patching in a controlled and documented manner.
- Support cloud‑based database deployments, with familiarity in OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure), Microsoft Azure, and Amazon AWS is considered a strong plus.
- Create and maintain database documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
- Participate in on‑call rotation for critical database support.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs or technical staff.
- Serve as a team lead on projects or tasks as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 7+ years of related experience
- Technical skills: Proven expertise in database backup/recovery strategies and tools (RMAN, Data Pump, SQL Server backup/restore, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of database security, auditing, encryption, and cyber protocols.
- Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and storage configuration.
- Solid understanding of high availability and disaster recovery solutions (AlwaysOn, Data Guard, clustering, replication).
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python or similar).
- Experience working with OCI and Azure cloud database services.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, or Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with automation tools and monitoring platforms.
