About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and implement network systems for LAN, MAN, and WAN environments
  • Monitor and diagnose network issues, performing root-cause analysis
  • Analyze network traffic patterns and provide capacity planning solutions
  • Interface with vendor support services to ensure timely resolution of issues
  • Perform system-level design and configuration
  • Evaluate and test new and existing network products
  • Provide technical assistance and oversight across all network operations
  • Contribute to policy discussions by providing insights on standards, technical constraints, and budget considerations
  • Conduct routine testing and analysis of network hardware
  • Identify opportunities for network optimization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 12+ years of professional experience in network engineering, infrastructure design, and systems troubleshooting
  • Deep knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless technologies, and network design principles
  • Expertise in protocols like TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, OSPF, and BGP
  • Understanding of network security practices, including system hardening and compliance with organizational standards
  • Previous experience working with the Department of Energy or similar federal agencies (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft DNS and Unix BIND systems (preferred)
  • Experience with DISA STIGs and other security frameworks required for federal compliance (preferred)
  • US Citizenship is required
