About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and implement network systems for LAN, MAN, and WAN environments
Monitor and diagnose network issues, performing root-cause analysis
Analyze network traffic patterns and provide capacity planning solutions
Interface with vendor support services to ensure timely resolution of issues
Perform system-level design and configuration
Evaluate and test new and existing network products
Provide technical assistance and oversight across all network operations
Contribute to policy discussions by providing insights on standards, technical constraints, and budget considerations
Conduct routine testing and analysis of network hardware
Identify opportunities for network optimization

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
12+ years of professional experience in network engineering, infrastructure design, and systems troubleshooting
Deep knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless technologies, and network design principles
Expertise in protocols like TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, OSPF, and BGP
Understanding of network security practices, including system hardening and compliance with organizational standards
Previous experience working with the Department of Energy or similar federal agencies (preferred)
Familiarity with Microsoft DNS and Unix BIND systems (preferred)
Experience with DISA STIGs and other security frameworks required for federal compliance (preferred)
US Citizenship is required
