About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Managed the analysis and design of network security solutions in datacenters and virtual cloud environments
- Provided technical and administrative direction to personnel responsible for security infrastructure design, implementation, and operations tasks, ensuring the correctness of work products
- Made recommendations and oversaw major security infrastructure installations
- Ensured that the security architecture complies with agency IT standards and integrates well with other systems and external interfaces
- Developed an understanding of, and implemented, agency security policy in network security infrastructure devices
- Evaluated cybersecurity risks to ensure that critical data and systems are protected per federal government guidelines and integrated with enterprise-wide solutions
- Analyzed trends, news, and changes in threat and compliance environments
- Advised organization management and developed and executed plans for compliance and mitigation of risk
- Applied security engineering principles and theory to propose design and configuration alternatives
- Evaluated existing security systems to identify deficiencies and areas for performance improvement
- Architected, designed, implemented, maintained, and operated information system security controls and countermeasures
- Provided technical guidance to personnel concerning security requirements and potential solutions or mitigation options
- Led, mentored, and managed a team of security professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
- Conducted performance reviews, provided career development guidance, and supported the professional growth of team members
- Coordinated and oversaw team projects, ensuring effective delegation, and timely completion of tasks

Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 15 years' experience as a Security Engineer
- Specialized experience with designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise-wide or large-scale network security systems, including Firewalls, IDS/IPS, content filters, and SSL-Visibility systems
- Advanced security certification from Palo Alto, Cisco, or Juniper. Palo Alto is preferred
- Strong people management skills, including team leadership, conflict resolution, and performance management
- Ability to manage the design and implementation of network security solutions in datacenters and virtual cloud environments
- Technical and administrative oversight of security infrastructure projects
- Ensuring compliance with agency IT standards and security architecture
- Cybersecurity risk evaluation and protection for critical data and systems
- Expertise in security architecture, design, implementation, and operations
- Analyzing trends and compliance environments to advise on risk and mitigation strategies
