About the role
- Support the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) custom software portfolio
- Deliver innovative solutions for improving the effectiveness, reach, and content of existing software solutions
- Reduce technical debt of existing solutions
- Improve existing code bases while ensuring they deliver value
- Create new code bases
- Advocate for improvements to the codebase
- Provide team and developer guidance to improve overall productivity
- Work across the software life-cycle with an emphasis on design and development
- Contribute to all parts of the application and testing stack
- Collaborate with the team to realize system requirements
- Provide custom implementations to enhance user experience
- Facilitate high-leverage decisions about architecture and software development
- Support writing clean, maintainable, testable and extensible code
- Contribute to all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g. Requirements, Design, Development, and Testing)
- Collaborate with team on Agile activities, including estimation, iterative planning and retrospectives
- Manage code and other artifacts using Github
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Engineering/Engineering Technology or related field
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with Java, JavaScript and SQL
- Experience with Git
- Experience working with and improving existing code bases
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NIH's Public Trust
