About the role

  • Support the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) custom software portfolio
  • Deliver innovative solutions for improving the effectiveness, reach, and content of existing software solutions
  • Reduce technical debt of existing solutions
  • Improve existing code bases while ensuring they deliver value
  • Create new code bases
  • Advocate for improvements to the codebase
  • Provide team and developer guidance to improve overall productivity
  • Work across the software life-cycle with an emphasis on design and development
  • Contribute to all parts of the application and testing stack
  • Collaborate with the team to realize system requirements
  • Provide custom implementations to enhance user experience
  • Facilitate high-leverage decisions about architecture and software development
  • Support writing clean, maintainable, testable and extensible code
  • Contribute to all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g. Requirements, Design, Development, and Testing)
  • Collaborate with team on Agile activities, including estimation, iterative planning and retrospectives
  • Manage code and other artifacts using Github

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Engineering/Engineering Technology or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript and SQL
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience working with and improving existing code bases
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NIH's Public Trust
