About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Defend lawsuits filed in Pennsylvania courts
Handle other first-party insurance defense matters
Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions and memoranda
Render opinions on liability, damages and value as requested by the Claims Department
Prepare and handle pleadings, motions and discovery
Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
Travel to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences as required

Requirements

What you’ll need

2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar REQUIRED
Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Pennsylvania
Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences
Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution
Strong organization, priority-setting and multitasking skills
Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Civil litigation experience preferred
Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred
Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone and in written correspondence/email
