About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Defend lawsuits filed in Pennsylvania courts
  • Handle other first-party insurance defense matters
  • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions and memoranda
  • Render opinions on liability, damages and value as requested by the Claims Department
  • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions and discovery
  • Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
  • Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
  • Travel to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
  • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar REQUIRED
  • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Pennsylvania
  • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
  • Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences
  • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
  • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution
  • Strong organization, priority-setting and multitasking skills
  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
  • Civil litigation experience preferred
  • Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred
  • Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone and in written correspondence/email
