About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Electrical Substation Project Engineers by producing timely, accurate drawing packages for complex power delivery projects and proposals
  • Produce general arrangements of AIS/GIS HV substations with control buildings
  • Develop plan views, elevations, equipment erection details, structural/electrical details, lightning, ground grid, foundation, tray/conduit/trough, and duct bank drawings
  • Generate detailed bills of materials
  • Develop 3D models using Revit or AutoCAD 3D for HV substations
  • Generate electrical physical 2D drawings
  • Develop HV physical designs from tender stages through project handover
  • Develop substation drawings using the NEC, NESC, and/or customer specifications
  • Develop detailed substation layouts and elevations from single-line diagrams and basic sketches
  • Develop detailed bills of material for substation power equipment, HV connectors, conduit/trough, and cable trays
  • Coordinate and interface with P&C, civil, and structural disciplines
  • Complete complex drawing packages with minimal or no supervision
  • Follow quality procedures and standard design processes
  • Review own work and the work of others
  • Update engineers and project managers on completion estimates and status
  • Implement BIM Execution Plans and related BIM use cases
  • Set up and work with a Common Data Environment (CDE)
  • Perform 3D model collaboration, auditing, clash detection meetings and reports, virtual construction, design and constructability reviews, augmented reality, georeferencing, and IFC exchanges
  • Manage BIM information data and ensure accuracy and completeness throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate development and evolution of regional BIM models and processes, including procedures, conventions, templates, attributes, and LOD/LOI definitions
  • Drive standardization of tools and design practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology
  • Minimum 7 years of HV Substation physical design experience
  • Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards
  • Strong experience of US Utility substation design standards
  • Good technical knowledge of LV/MV/HV equipment and related accessories
  • Capable of producing HV substation general arrangements and installation details with minimum supervision
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the latest version of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD 3D, SDS Navisworks, and software integrations
  • Good knowledge of ISO 19650 and other BIM standards
  • Experience in Autodesk Construction Cloud, including Docs, Design Collaboration, Model Coordination, Insight, and Build
  • Demonstrated MCAD skills, including general usage and tool configuration
  • Exposure to Creo, E3D, SolidWorks, Inventor, and IFC exchange format
  • General IT/IS background and PLM knowledge, including Windchill Imagine
  • Prior experience with field installation and construction
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to produce clear and simple documentation
  • Prior experience following quality assurance processes in a schedule-driven project environment
  • Customer-focused with ability to adapt to various customer standards
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
