About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze extensive power system model validation and diagnostic logs
- Develop AI/LLM-based approaches to detect, classify, and prioritize modeling issues
- Investigate network model inconsistencies and determine probable root causes
- Build intelligent workflows that suggest or prescribe corrective actions for model remediation
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and support Distribution Automation functions including power flow analysis, FLISR, VVO, fault location, and feeder reconfiguration
- Collaborate with Engineering teams and end customers to ensure reliable operation of advanced distribution capabilities
- Own a subset of a project, integrating, configuring, and testing the assigned component
- Work with internal delivery teams to obtain fixes and maintain the project schedule
- Track issue resolutions and create detailed solution documentation and troubleshooting guides
- Develop automated reasoning frameworks across GIS, SCADA/EMS, Customer Information Systems, and Planning and Engineering applications
- Design prompt engineering, retrieval, agentic, or workflow-based solutions using modern LLM technologies
- Evaluate AI-generated recommendations for accuracy, explainability, and operational value
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and power system experts to prototype and validate solutions
- Identify system problems and failures under general supervision
- Research issues, obtain internal and external support, document findings, and present results to engineering leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems specialization) or Computer Science
- Candidates with a Power Systems or Computer Science background
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Programming experience in Python and data analytics
- Excellent English communication skills, written and oral
- Experience with AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, or Large Language Models preferred
- Interest in applying AI to power system modeling, validation, and automation preferred
- Knowledge of Windows, .NET, SQL databases, web technology integration, web servers, web services, and SOA technologies preferred
- Active participation in university projects involving software design, software integration, and/or power systems preferred
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 4.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale, without rounding, preferred
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
- Available for a 6–12 month internship, with 12 months preferred
