About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Execute contractual obligations and daily customer-required activities across electrical and mechanical equipment used in GE wind turbine generators
  • Apply knowledge of variable-pitch and variable-speed turbines and converter parts
  • Read, understand, and explain schematics, drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
  • Adhere to Environmental Health and Safety processes, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable-pitch and variable-speed turbines
  • Support all areas of site operations with minimal supervision while observing safety requirements
  • Perform diagnostic analysis and develop plans for timely resolution
  • Document work using computer-based service reporting procedures
  • Work with GE’s remote operations center when necessary
  • Mentor peers and support site operations as directed by management
  • Travel locally among all wind sites within Texas Hub 1 and report to assigned sites

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass the Technical Knowledge Assessment
  • Minimum of 4 years of wind troubleshooting experience plus at least 1 year in an EHS, SQC, or lead role, or minimum of 6 years of wind troubleshooting experience, or minimum of 3 years of wind troubleshooting experience and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid driver’s license that must be maintained
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time
  • Ability and willingness to lift repetitive weight up to 45 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability and willingness to climb towers of 300+ feet regularly
  • Must meet and maintain manufacturer weight limits not exceeding 300 lbs. including required gear
  • Ability and willingness to work in industrial, manufacturing, and power-industry environments
  • Ability to prioritize work according to contract obligations
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and work without direct supervision
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts and on-call schedules; occasional overnights may be required
  • Preferred associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical, electrical, or electronics field
  • Preferred technical certification in wind energy or electrical/electronic fields
  • Wind turbine experience
  • Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic experience
  • Experience using hydraulic power tools
  • Experience with heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Ability to work with personnel at all levels inside and outside the wind farm
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
