About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own LP Hood and crossover pipe component design across Order-to-Remittance activities for new steam turbine units
  • Lead and review engineering analyses to ensure designs meet Critical-to-Quality parameters
  • Apply mechanical design fundamentals including material properties, statics, strength of materials, and Finite Element Analysis
  • Implement technology advancements across shaftline systems, subsystems, components, and materials
  • Collaborate with steampath, rotor, thermodynamics, manufacturing, drafting, and global supply chain teams
  • Support junior LP Hood engineers in day-to-day work and professional development
  • Embed Environmental Health and Safety principles into designs, including safe lifting and transportation approaches
  • Contribute to Research, Technology, and Standards and New Product Introduction activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience in engineering, technology, or systems engineering
  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals, including material properties, statics, strength of materials, and FEA
  • Engineering experience in steam turbine design and/or operability
  • Familiarity with steam turbine component design processes, tools, and procedures
  • 4+ years of experience for Schenectady, NY and Querétaro; significant experience for Elbląg, Poland
  • Proficiency in English
  • FEA capability with commercial simulation tools preferred
  • Experience with stationary steam turbine component design preferred
  • Familiarity with fabrication, machining, and factory assembly/testing for power generation equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of gas turbines or other turbomachinery products preferred
  • Proficiency in a second language preferred, including German, French, Spanish, or Polish
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is valued, but not required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
