About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects
- Perform substation design and serve as the primary technical lead
- Manage scheduling, standards and specifications compliance, value engineering, design review planning, and quality assurance and control
- Develop and oversee power single-line diagrams, substation arrangement drawings, high-voltage bus and equipment arrangements, and related design deliverables
- Act as the technical point of contact among customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams
- Direct and support engineers, designers, and subcontracted resources
- Drive cross-discipline coordination for integrated substation solutions
- Review and contribute to conceptual engineering, proposal documentation, BOMs, technical specifications, sourcing support, vendor quotation evaluations, and technical clarifications
- Prepare high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes
- Support vendor engagement and equipment selection
- Lead subcontracted design work scopes when needed
- Assist with team productivity and billable utilization
- Ensure engineering outputs meet customer CTQs and are delivered on time and within budget
- Support commissioning and interfaces between customers and project stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with +10 years of relevant experience
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally, in compliance with company travel and tax policies
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with ability to obtain licensure in other states
- Willingness to review and seal drawings under their supervision
- Experience with EHV substation design standards
- Expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering for utility and renewable energy
- Expertise in primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection
- Experience in industrial power system design at 12.5 kV and above
- Proficiency in battery sizing, DC system design, AC auxiliary power, transformer and circuit breaker selection, conductor sizing, grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination
- Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards
- Ability to develop complete engineering packages without detailed customer specifications
- Field-testing and commissioning experience with strong emphasis on safety
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Customer-facing communication and commercial awareness, including change orders and project delivery
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and design automation tools
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
