About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects
- Self-perform substation design and serve as the primary technical lead
- Manage scheduling, standards/specifications compliance, value engineering, design review planning, and quality assurance/control
- Develop and oversee power single-line diagrams, substation arrangement drawings, high-voltage bus and equipment arrangements, and related design deliverables
- Serve as the technical point of contact for customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams
- Direct and support engineers, designers, and subcontracted resources
- Drive cross-discipline coordination for integrated substation solutions
- Review and contribute to conceptual engineering and proposal deliverables
- Support sourcing, vendor quotation evaluation, technical clarifications, and assumptions
- Lead high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes
- Support vendor engagement and equipment selection
- Assist with team productivity and billable utilization
- Ensure engineering outputs meet customer CTQs and project schedule/budget requirements
- Support commissioning and customer/project stakeholder interface efforts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with +10 years of relevant experience
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with ability to obtain licensure in other states
- Willingness to review and seal drawings under their supervision
- Experience with EHV substation design standards
- Expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering for utility and renewable energy
- Expertise in primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection
- Industrial power system design experience at 12.5 kV and above
- Proficiency in battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power calculations
- Proficiency in power transformer and circuit breaker selection
- Proficiency in conductor sizing and application
- Proficiency in grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination
- Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards
- Field-testing and commissioning experience with strong emphasis on safety
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Customer-facing communication and commercial awareness
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and design automation tools
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
