About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define, design, and coordinate technical aspects of HV/EHV substation protection and control
- Oversee technical plant integration and optimization at project level
- Design protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial, and BESS applications
- Develop panel and interconnect wiring, panel layouts, and elevations with local or remote design teams
- Evaluate IED interoperability, control features, communications, protocols, SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecom integration
- Coordinate technical development with SCADA, physical, and control design engineers
- Meet project specifications, cost-control, and schedule objectives
- Interface with internal and external engineering, design, project management, sourcing, and support teams
- Review load-flow, fault, relay coordination, and transient studies
- Train end users on integrated protection and control systems
- Lead or support factory acceptance testing, site testing, and commissioning
- Develop outage, cut-over, and testing procedures
- Perform root cause analyses, corrective actions, and process-control validation
- Support quality initiatives including ISO9002
- Develop proposals, technical specifications, design-hour and material estimates, vendor quotations, clarifications, exceptions, technical responses, and validations
- Lead or serve as project engineer for small- to medium-sized projects
- Continuously update technical knowledge in support of grid transition needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree from an accredited university
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in protection and controls engineering for substations or power generation
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally
- Ability to comply with company travel and tax policies
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and practices
- Understanding of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC, and FACTS systems
- Fluent in English
- P.E. License or EIT with willingness to pursue and acquire P.E. certification, or P.Eng. or willingness to acquire certification
- Presentation skills and ability to communicate complex messages succinctly
- Experience in technical problem solving
- Mastery of secondary engineering discipline, including processes, tools, and technical aspects
- Ownership, accountability, judgment, decision-making, and passion for the functional role
