About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead technical aspects of Electric Substation SCADA and cybersecurity system design deliverables
  • Ensure design compliance with NERC CIP, IEC 62443, IEC-61850, DNP standards, applicable codes, and industry best practices
  • Provide functional design specifications for complex SCADA and cybersecurity systems across multiple sites
  • Lead the project design team to deliver quality products on time and under budget
  • Review and coordinate vendor and manufacturer detailed designs
  • Coordinate SCADA and cybersecurity design with protection and control, primary design, site management, commissioning, and field personnel
  • Develop Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing procedures and participate in FAT and SAT
  • Prepare engineering estimates for SCADA systems
  • Estimate equipment quantities and costs for proposals
  • Communicate with the Project Engineering Manager regarding material cost, schedule, engineering budget, safety, and quality impacts
  • Communicate with customers and report potential project variations or risks to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an associated discipline from an accredited university
  • 7 years’ experience in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience designing cybersecurity systems for utility, renewable, and/or industrial HV and EHV substations
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including internationally
  • Compliance with company travel and tax policies
  • Knowledge of NERC-CIP cybersecurity standards and guidelines, IEC 62443, or NIST
  • Knowledge of SCADA network architecture, including HMIs, gateways, and RTUs
  • Knowledge of SCADA protocols including OPC and DNP3
  • Experience building scalable and highly available distributed networks
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850-based digital substations, including PRP, HSR, and RSTP
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity equipment including VPNs, firewalls, routers, and NIDS
  • Familiarity with telecom equipment and standards including MPLS, multiplexers, WAN, LTE, and 4G
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng, or willingness to obtain certification within two years
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada or the United States
  • Compliance with applicable U.S. Export Control Laws and citizenship/authorization requirements
  • Successful completion of a background investigation
  • For U.S.-based employment, successful completion of a drug screen as applicable
