About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Civil Site Works Commodity Manager in civil pre-construction, sourcing, and contractor management for GE Vernova projects across North America
- Establish a competitive bid environment for civil scopes including earthworks, concrete foundations, site grading, underground utilities, access roads, drainage systems, and substation/site development
- Develop RFQ packages for excavation, foundations, rebar, concrete, duct banks, site grading, roadworks, fencing, drainage, and temporary works
- Review contractor proposals and clarify quantities, assumptions, exclusions, and construction methods
- Participate in contractor evaluation and selection during tendering
- Support weekly and monthly contractor status calls and prepare meeting minutes
- Provide consolidated civil project status updates to the Civil Site Works Commodity Manager
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, EHS, and construction teams on RFI reviews and technical clarifications
- Coordinate with GE contract managers on contractor terms, scopes, flowdowns, and risk allocation
- Support negotiation of contractor pricing, terms, NDAs/MNDAs, MSAs, and project-specific agreements
- Track supplier and contractor KPIs including Deflation, DTP, Quality, Compliance, and On-Time Delivery
- Support sourcing and qualification of certified minority-owned, veteran-owned, women-owned, and small civil contractors
- Maintain civil contractor documentation, drawings, RFIs, and commercial packages in electronic databases
- Support contractor onboarding and verify compliance with GE sourcing and EHS policies
- Assist with planning and participating in occasional on-site contractor audits
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 3 years of experience on major construction or infrastructure projects involving civil, structural, or site development work
- Minimum 3 years of experience in civil pre-construction, estimating, or commercial bid analysis
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
- Legal authorization to work in both the U.S. and Canada
- Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods, including excavation, concrete, utilities, foundations, and roads
- Proven project management skills managing multiple civil bid packages and deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated negotiation expertise with civil subcontractors
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and commercial assessment skills
- Strategic sourcing skills in a matrixed organization
- Detail-oriented and organized, with ability to maintain accurate civil documentation and contractor records
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure is actively being pursued or intended within a defined timeframe
