About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform preventative maintenance, installations, troubleshooting, and repairs on customers’ steam power boilers and associated equipment
- Visit customer sites to resolve issues and provide service
- Service steam boilers, auxiliary equipment, and environmental control systems
- Adapt field service assignments to varying customer-facility conditions while meeting quality and budget requirements
- Provide advice and guidance on commissioning, operation, maintenance, efficiency, and reliability of fossil-fired steam generator equipment and systems
- Conduct and manage inspections, performance testing, and projects
- Write detailed technical reports and develop customer recommendations
- Provide maintenance and operations consultation
- Act as the company representative in resolving and reporting complex technical and logistics problems
- Maintain customer relations and protect GE Steam Power’s interests
- Carry out engineering site assignments from the Area Service Manager
- Support customer expectations and the Technical Services team’s reputation
- Develop technical capabilities and maintain Technical Services expertise and competencies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or Associate’s Degree in Power Plant Technology, or related field experience up to 5 years maintaining and servicing steam generating equipment
- Must be authorized to live and work in the U.S.
- Ability to travel 75-80% with air and ground travel on short notice
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work with people
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to adapt to revised priorities, unforeseen problems, tight schedules, demanding conditions, extensive travel, and uncertain schedules
- Ability to work in industrial environments, remote areas, or international locations
- Technical competency in maintenance and operations of boilers, pulverizers, and auxiliary components
- Ability to perform climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., grasp, perform repetitive motion, and work in confined spaces including through an 18-inch-diameter hole
- Close visual acuity
- Ability to work inside and outside in varying weather and high noise levels
- Ability to wear a respirator
- Expected to be on call and available
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
